(6 x 1hr sessions) This course is for those who would like a basic understanding of what nutrition means and how to create a balanced diet that provides what you need to stay healthy. The course starts with the basics of what are proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. It also looks at what reduces the nutritional value of both bought and home made food, and covers the essential basics principles of nutritious food preparation, digestion, energy levels, weight gain and weight loss.
Healthy Doable Desirable Food. (6 x 1hr sessions)This course is for people who want to learn about nutrition, as per above, but with a practical focus on menu planning and recipes for foods that can be prepared in super-quick time and with minimal fuss. It is designed for health-conscious adults and parents with hectic lifestyles. The course is hands-on and practical, focusing on time-limited application of the basics of nutrition and how to put nutritious, desirable looking food on the table with minimum time and effort spent. All Courses……
….are tailored to suit the group, but with a few common threads:
- separating facts from fiction and remove the ‘hype’ from conflicting nutritional information in the press.
- dealing with ‘what does this mean for me‘ and providing hands-on, practical application of the facts learnt.
- focusing on the scarce resources of time, money and effort spent, but remembering that eating and drinking is supposed to be enjoyable.
As such, my aim with the courses and consultations is always to understand your particular needs and to provide practical guidance on how to deal with your challenges so you can produce and enjoy healthy, varied and nutritionally balanced meals and snacks and feel confident that what you are doing for yourself and your family, is going to make them healthier. In parallel, I give you the opportunity to build knowledge of how the body digests and utilises different nutrients in order to:
– maintain your health and physical and mental wellbeing
– avoid disease
– combat sugar addictions
– build healthy habits and cravings for healthy foods
I generally deal with nutrition and healthy eating from the perspective of how to eradicate unhealthy eating habits and addictions by optimising the use of ‘good’ favourite foods and by introducing new tastes, textures and ideas. I always consider likes and dislikes and try to work around these. As such, allergies and intolerances, likes and dislikes, fussy eaters, table tantrums, cultural restrictions, medical challenges and weight problems are all on the agenda, and more.
All courses are for a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 people per course. Timing is flexible to suit the group, and generally span 6 weekly sessions, unless advertised otherwise.
